Goodrich Quality Theaters to Bring First-Ever IMAX® Theater to Lafayette
Lafayette, IN – September 21, 2018 - Goodrich Quality Theaters (GQT) Inc., headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is moving forward with renovation plans for their Eastside 9 theater that include all-powered recliner seats, updated lobby, expanded concession stand, self-serve ticket kiosks, reserved seating, Screen Taps® bar and an all-new, state-of-the-art IMAX® theater, which marks the first in Lafayette. With the addition of the IMAX theater, the theater name will be changed to Eastside 10 IMAX, and the location will remain at 300 Farabee Dr. North, Lafayette, IN 47905.
Eastside 9 will close on September 27th to start the remodel with a re-open date for the majority of the auditoriums by mid-December 2018. The IMAX auditorium will debut in March 2019. Moviegoers will still be able to see the biggest movies at Lafayette 7 and Wabash Landing 9 (West Lafayette), GQT’s sister theaters. All employees of Eastside 9 will work at these two theaters until the re-opening of the Eastside 10 IMAX.
The 6-million-dollar project features all 10 auditoriums with state-of-the-art digital projection and sound with reserved seating. The IMAX® screen will span 75 ft. in width with nearly 300 oversized, plush chairs. The IMAX Experience® will offer moviegoers a truly immersive, cinematic experience, allowing them to enjoy the biggest blockbusters like never before. IMAX’s cutting-edge projection system, which delivers crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.
Eastside 10 IMAX will also feature Screen Taps®, a belly up bar giving moviegoers (21+) an alternative to the traditional beverages offered at the concessions stand. Moviegoers can order beer, wine, and select mixed drinks to take into their movie. An expanded concessions menu will offer new hot food options at the concession stand that include flatbreads, sliders, fries, chicken fingers and more. Moviegoers will also be able to refill their own sodas at a self-serve refill station. In addition, moviegoers will have updated restrooms, a family restroom, new parking lot, new party room and larger entrance.
“Our theaters have been in Lafayette for the past 28 years, and we are really excited to bring recliner seats, new food and drink amenities, and The IMAX Experience to Lafayette and surrounding communities,” says Martin Betz, Chief Operating Officer, Goodrich Quality Theaters. “This project has changed over the last couple years, but we decided to remodel the current building and put all of our resources into building an ultimate, giant screen IMAX auditorium – the first in Lafayette,” says Betz.

ABOUT THE IMAX EXPERIENCE®
In IMAX, you’re experiencing a different movie altogether: everything from the movie itself to the theatre’s technology and design was developed and customized to make you believe you’re part of the action.
IMAX works directly with filmmakers to enhance the movie using its Digital Re-Mastering® process, which delivers superior picture and sound quality. Played through IMAX’s state-of-the art projection system, the resulting images are so lifelike and crystal-clear you’ll forget you’re in a theatre.
IMAX grabs your senses. You don’t just hear the powerful sound system; you feel it all around you. Visually, there is no frame. IMAX’s custom theatre design creates a picture that is higher, wider and closer – filling your peripheral view.
It’s not one thing that makes The IMAX Experience but a combination of all these elements. That’s the difference between seeing a movie and being part of one. Visit IMAX.com for information.
