Huntington Twin Drive-In Purchased by GQT

Grand Rapids, MI — April 9, 2015 — Goodrich Quality Theaters in Grand Rapids, MI is purchasing The Huntington Drive-in theater at 1291 Condit St. Huntington, IN.  Built in 1950, Huntington has one of America’s oldest drive-in theaters. The Huntington Drive-in celebrates its 65th Anniversary this year with two free movies.  T-shirts will be available for purchase commemorating the 65th Anniversary while in stock.

Goodrich will convert the film presentation to 4K digital projection by April 30th.  The digital projection upgrade will be a sharper, brighter image and digital files are essential for scheduling today’s movies, as 35mm film distribution is ending.

The drive-in will start accepting credit cards on May 1st. Also it will accept Goodrich’s loyalty reward program: The Frequent Moviegoer club to earn points for free concessions.  Goodrich plans to keep most of the same food sold at the concession stand.  Goodrich intends to open with the same ticket prices as the previous owners.

To celebrate the 65th Anniversary, The Huntington Drive-in will show with FREE admission Penguins of Madagascar and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb on film projection for the last times Friday, April 24th and Saturday April 25th.  Installation of the digital projectors will begin the week of April 27th.  Goodrich Quality Theaters will invite moviegoers to view Maleficent in the new digital format for FREE admission on Thursday evening, April 30th

Goodrich Quality Theaters is expanding its presence in Huntington as they have operated the Huntington 7 since 1999.  Nor is Goodrich unaccustomed to drive-ins. “In 1969, I opened my first drive-in theater in Big Rapids, Michigan followed up by three more locations and operated them for over 15 years,” explained owner Bob Goodrich. “Viewing a blockbuster at a drive-in has been an integral part of movie-going history, and we will do our best to uphold this tradition in Huntington. We want families and drive-in enthusiasts to continue to enjoy what they supported for past the 65 years,” says Goodrich.

“We want to thank all of our loyal customers for 13 great seasons,” says current owners John and Nellie Detzler.   “We hope patrons continue visiting the Huntington Drive-in for many more years; it will always hold a special place in our heart,” says John Detzler.

Detzler and his wife plan to stay on for the first two weekends to help the new Goodrich staff get up and running for the season with the opening of Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1st.  Information on The Huntington Drive-in can be found on www.huntingtondrivein.com and/or www.gqtmovies.com.
